Can You Extend Your Nails With Gellae? Full Diamond Top Coat Guide

One of the most common questions we get is whether you can get longer nails out of a Gellae, not just a polish finish on your natural nail length. The honest answer is nuanced: gellaes aren't designed to be extensions on their own, but there is a proper way to add a bit of extra length using our Diamond Top Coat, and we're breaking down exactly how.

Why gellaes alone aren't extensions

Gellae gel nail stickers are designed to be applied directly to your natural nail length. Unlike acrylics, they're not rigid — instead, they mould to the shape of your natural nail when cured, which is exactly what helps them stay put without lifting or popping off. That flexibility is a feature, not a flaw, but it does mean they're not built to hold their shape unsupported past the end of your natural nail.

How to add length with Diamond Top Coat

If you love a slightly longer look, you can extend your Gellae up to 3mm past your natural nail edge using our Diamond Top Coat, which doubles as an extension gel. Here's the process:

1. Apply your Gellae sticker and cure it as normal.

2. Trim or shape the edge to your desired extended length, up to 3mm past your natural nail.

3. Apply a thin layer of Diamond Top Coat on top of the extended edge and underneath it as well, to give it structural support from both sides.

4. Cure for 60–120 seconds under your UV/LED lamp.

This method adds extra structure and support to the extended tip while locking in that glossy Gellae finish, and it's a lot more forgiving than a full acrylic extension if you ever want to go back to your natural length.

Getting the most out of an extended set

Because the extended portion has no natural nail underneath it, it's more delicate than the rest of your set, so treat that edge a little more carefully day to day. Keep the extension to the 3mm guideline rather than pushing further, since anything longer starts to lose the structural support the thin top coat layer can provide. If the tip does start to show wear before the rest of your set, a light top-up of Diamond Top Coat on just that edge can extend its life without needing a full redo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I go longer than 3mm?

We recommend sticking to the 3mm guideline. Beyond that, the unsupported tip is more likely to crack or snag since it no longer has your natural nail underneath it.

Do I need special tools to shape the extended tip?

A regular nail file works fine for trimming and shaping before you apply the Diamond Top Coat layer.

Will the extension look obviously different from the rest of the nail?

Applied evenly, the Diamond Top Coat blends with the gellae's finish, so the extension reads as a natural continuation of your nail rather than a visible tip line.
